Nursery

The Nursery

Our nursery offers the most complete selection of plants in the Jackson Area. We have one acre of glass greenhouses and several acres for plants outside, all on top of hand-laid pavers.

Vegetables

We carry a variety of peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, greens, eggplant, peanuts, squash, cucumbers, watermelons, cantaloupes, broccoli, Brussels sprouts and other vegetables and fruits ready to be planted at various times of the year. We also have potato, onion, garlic, asparagus and rhubarb tubers, along with a wide variety of seeds to grow your own.

Perennials

Something always is in bloom at Dutch Garden Center with our wide selection of perennials. These include…

  • “Caitlins Giant’’ ajuga, a large leafed variety with brilliant blue flowers and deep purple leaves.
  • “Firewitch’” dianthus, which was named the 2006 Perennial of the Year.
  • “Chapel Hill” lantana, a spreading perennial with bright yellow flowers.
  • Hechuera in a variety of colors.
  • Several varieties of hostas.
  • A large selection of daylilies.

Annuals

Our annuals are available from early March through late November and provide a range of color. A sample of what we offer includes marigolds, pansies, snapdragons, geraniums, begonias, ornamental peppers and cabbages, petunias including the ‘Wave’ varieties. Each is available when it is the best time to plant in West Tennessee’s climate.

Fruit Bearers

We carry several varieties of blueberries. You can select from plants that fruit early, mid-season or late season.

We also have raspberries, grapes, olives, figs, apples, pears, peaches, pecans, and walnuts.

If you’re looking for something unique, check out our selection of lemons, limes, oranges, loquats, kiwis, and other unique finds.

Trees

From the common to the rare, we have a host of different trees. The “Cleveland Select” Bradford Pear, for example, is a variety that resists the splitting that is common with older Bradford Pear trees. Our tree pad puts on a show as the blooms open in the spring and the leaves turn in the fall.

Shrubs

From the multiple blooming “Encore” azaleas and “Endless Summer” hydrangeas, to “Helleri” hollies, we have shrubs to suit any need. “Zhou Zhou” loropetulum, for example, makes an excellent, showy screen with its deep burgundy leaves and pink flowers.

Conifers

Year round foliage is provided by our collection of evergreens. We offer a variety of pines, spruces, firs, cryptomeria, cypress and junipers. We also have a selection of arborvitae, which provide a more resistant alternative to the traditional Leland cypress.

Tropicals

Our tropicals are a treat to the Jackson and West Tennessee area. Our heated greenhouses allow us to provide these plants year round. We carry hibiscus, palms, mandevillas, bouganvillias, agave, cactus, yuccas and bromeliads, just to name a few.  We also have an impressive selection of ferns, both hanging and potted.

Orchids

A truly rare plant for our area, the orchids at the Dutch Garden Center have earned themselves their own greenhouse. Our selection includes phalaenopsis, which has been described as America’s favorite orchid; cattleya, which feature unique water storing roots; oncidium; and dendrobium, or the spray orchid.

We invite you to visit our newly created Orchid House, the brainchild of DGC owner, Bas van Buuren, an orchid lover since childhood. Young Bas learned to divide and propagate orchids, an early indicator of his pursuits in the world of plants.  It is our pleasure to feature some of the choicest varieties in the Jackson area. You’ll find full size and mini Phalaenopsis, Odoncidiums, Oncidiums, and other varieties as they become seasonally available.

If you’re not an orchid fanatic, don’t let these names scare you. Orchids have an undeserved reputation for being finicky. Like any plant, if you provide the right medium and conditions they bloom with ease. DGC carries premium orchid bark and fertilizer, as well as a perfectly sized, self-watering mini pot by Lechuza, designed to maintain the perfect moisture level for your orchid.
