Are you having plant problems?

Well, we’re sorry to hear that, and we’d love to get to the bottom of it. People often ask us to diagnose plant ailments, and we are happy to do so.  Please provide us with as much of the following information as possible, so we can help you:

  • Bring in a piece of the affected plant, preferably one that has visible damage on it, in a Ziploc bag
  • Note the kind of light the plant receives… direct or indirect, morning or afternoon sun, filtered, shady, etc.
  • What kind of soil is it planted in? Peat, clay, loam etc.
  • Watering, how often do you do it? Does water drain well, or does it collect? Do you have irrigation? Any downspouts present? Any plants above that may drip down on it?
  • Inspect the roots, if you can. Healthy roots should be whitish. If your roots appear rotten or smell off, tell us.
  • When & what did you last fertilize with? Has your yard recently been treated by a lawn care or pest control service?
  • Do pets or wildlife visit the plant?
  • If you have any insects you suspect might be causing damage, catch some & put them in a Ziploc bag.
  • If it is a fruiting tree, bring fruit that appears affected.
